Welcome to our last newsletter of this academic year.

Message from Mrs Fry and Mrs Parker

Image of the Corsham Primary Dragon

We have had such a lot of fun celebrating the end of what can only be described as a fantastic year.  Our Year 6 students have said goodbye to their time at primary school and are looking forward to pastures new - we wish them well in their onward journey into secondary school.

We are looking forward to welcoming all our new Foundation Stage children in September.  We've enjoyed meeting them during our play sessions and know that they will settle in brilliantly.

We are very sad to be saying goodbye to Mrs Simpkins who has secured a new position at Hardenhuish School - she will be missed by staff and our Broadwood parents.  We wish her well in her new position.

To all staff leaving us, we hope they enjoy their new challenges ahead, and we welcome new joining staff and hope they will be happy as part of the Corsham Primary family.

We give special thanks to our dedicated and hardworking PTA - this year they have raised over £8,357 which has paid for a lot of extra resources in classes.

Also deserving of our huge thanks are all the volunteer readers who come and listen to the children regularly; we so appreciate your time and commitment and most importantly, the children have benefited greatly from all the opportunities for extra reading.

On behalf of the entire staff team, thank you to all parents and carers for kind words, cards and presents at the end of term.  It goes without saying that we appreciate your consistent enthusiasm and support.  We wish everyone a happy, healthy, safe and sunshiney summer break and look forward to hearing all your news in September.

PS - Please don't forget that ordering/paying for school lunches from September will need to be done in advance online.  Details can be seen via this link - New ordering and payment of lunches from September Thank you.

Ready, Set, Read! Summer Reading Challenge 2023

Children often have a dip in their reading over the summer, the Summer Reading Challenge, produced by the Reading Agency and delivered by libraries, has been proven to stop this as well as changing children’s attitudes in a positive way towards reading and libraries. The challenge is for 4-11year olds to read 6 library books over 8 weeks of the summer in return for various fun prizes, including a medal and certificate on completion.

This year the challenge runs from Saturday 15 July to Saturday 9 September. There will be an initial registration period in the first two weeks of the challenge, where children will receive a collector’s folder, then after this period (from 31 July) they are invited to return to talk about the books they have read and start collecting their stickers. Children can also continue to register throughout the summer.

It’s free to join the challenge and to take out a library membership, visit: Join the library - Wiltshire Council and library staff will be on hand to support reading choices. Children can also take part in the challenge online via the website: summerreadingchallenge.org.uk  where they can rate and review books, download activities, and access video content, games and quizzes.

Enjoy some summertime reading!

Attendance

Corsham Primary School supports the principles, practice and procedures outlined in the DfE school attendance document. We believe pupils can only take full advantage of their education by regular and punctual attendance at school to ensure continuity of learning.

Number of recordings of children late arriving at school
Pound Pill in July = 61
Broadwood in July = 39

Total percentage of attendance
Pound Pill for July was 93.36%
Broadwood for July was 94.07%

If you need to report your child's absence, please telephone and leave a message on the office answerphone giving the reason for absence.  This is important for our daily registers which must reflect accurately, why a child is not in school.

Sports News

On Thursday lunchtime the Year 4 cricketers went to the Corsham Cricket club for an afternoon tournament as part of the Corsham sports cluster.

We took an intrepid team made up of students from both sites.

Broadwood:

Leon O, Elliott G, Stanley L and Jack R

Pound Pill:

Arthur N-H, Harry S, Buddy J, Ellena H, Lottie G and Joey E

Our first match against Neston was won with a comfortable lead whilst we were getting used to bowling, fielding and batting.

The 2nd game was on the same pitch against St Patricks, and we got into our stride with a few more runs being scored.

We moved to the other pitch for the 3rd game against Corsham Regis and the boundary cones were slightly closer which gave more opportunities to score 4s and 6s.

We won all three games to gain a place in the final v Neston again. They had some fantastic batters and a fast bowler at the end, but we held them off and even with a few wickets being taken won the final by 5 runs. Mrs Fulluck would like to thank all the supporters who came out in the rain and sunshine to watch, and well done to all the cricketers for a brilliant team performance.
