Welcome to our June edition

Message from the Headteachers ...

Our Year 6 children have now completed their SATs, and we could not be more proud of the dedication, focus, and positive attitude they showed throughout the process.

Our Key Stage 2 children delivered a fantastic Indhu Rani afternoon last month, helped along by wonderfully kind weather and an enthusiastic crowd. The event was filled with energy, smiles, and plenty of fun for everyone involved.  All funds raised will once again support Dhanshika at the Goodwill Village in India. Dhanshika, who dreams of joining the police force when she grows up, has already benefited greatly from the generosity of our school community. Last year, the children raised over £1,000 to help fund her education. Watch this space to see how much was raised this year.  A huge well done to all the children for their hard work and commitment. Truly fantastic effort all round.

As we move into Term 6, we’re looking forward to a wonderful calendar of events, including music concerts, sports mornings, the PTA annual summer picnic, and our ongoing forest school sessions and assemblies. There is plenty to enjoy as the term unfolds.

We are also delighted to welcome our new Foundation Stage children and their families for play sessions and an information evening as they prepare for their exciting first steps into primary school this September. This is always a special time of year, and we are committed to ensuring a smooth, happy transition for our newest members of the school community.

In staff news, we say a fond farewell to Mrs Ashdown at Broadwood who is off to pastures new. She has supported hundreds of Corsham Primary children over the years. We wish her good luck in her new career and will still see her at school for parent meetings.

Attendance

Corsham Primary School supports the principles, practice and procedures outlined in the recently updated DfE School Attendance document. We believe pupils can only take full advantage of their education by regular and punctual attendance at school to ensure continuity of learning.

May attendance across both sites was 92%

Unauthorised absences across both sites was 4%

Number of late arrivals across both sites was 0.5%

We have noticed that our percentage of late arrivals is currently higher than we would expect. We would therefore like to remind parents and carers how important it is for children to arrive at school on time, ready to begin their learning day calmly and positively.

If your child is absent, please telephone the school and leave a message on the office answerphone, clearly stating the reason for the absence. This is essential so that our daily registers are accurate and reflect why a child is not in school.

If your child will be absent due to a planned event, we ask that you complete a Leave of Absence form. These are available from the school office or can be found at the bottom of the home page on our website.

Thank you for your continued support in helping us keep our records accurate and ensuring the best start to the day for all children.

Forest School

For our fifth Forest School session, each class has been working on their wood crafting skills. Our youngest children have been getting used to wearing PPE gloves and using a palm drill to hollow out (push the pith out) of cut pieces of Elder to make their own beads. These they have then threaded onto a leather lace to create their own Forest School medal.

Our years 3 and 4 have used a vegetable peeler and the palm drill, whilst wearing PPE gloves to create a woodland creature. They used the vegetable peeler to remove bark from a length of green Hazel and then the palm drill to create a hole in one end for either hair or a tail. Children decorated their creatures using permanent pens, feathers, wooden beads and pipe cleaners. Our years 5 and 6 used a craft knife to whittle their creations. I’ve seen carrots, parsnips, crayons, foxes, crazy-haired characters; such imagination!
