Welcome to our April edition

Message from the Headteachers ...

The new school term will officially begin on Monday 13 April, following the Easter holiday break.

With spring now in full bloom, pupils and staff have been making the most of the season’s bright weather. Forest School sessions have been particularly popular, with outdoor activities thriving under the warm, sunny conditions.

The school calendar is also gearing up for a busy period, with a series of community events scheduled in the coming weeks. Families can look forward to cake sales, assemblies, and spring discos. A highlight will once again be the much-loved Indhu Rani Afternoon, organised by the children to raise funds for the Goodwill Children’s Home in southern India.

Broadwood is also pleased to announce the arrival of our new Inclusion Manager, Mrs. Hannah Webb. The school extends a warm welcome and looks forward to working with her as part of the Corsham Primary team.

At Pound Pill, we are delighted to welcome back onto our team, Mrs Jess Clark, who will be joining our Ivern Room team and is looking forward to getting to know our children and their families.

We said a temporary goodbye and good luck to Miss Lucy Organ, who left the admin team at the end of term, to go on maternity leave.  We are looking forward to hearing news of her baby's safe arrival very soon.  During Miss Organ's absence, we welcome Ms Katy Haresnape to the admin team and are looking forward to working with her over the coming months.

Forest School focus

Our sessions recently have focused on campfire cooking. Many of our classes have been learning about food as part of their enquiries, so we have taken some of that learning outside into a practical focus. Our eldest children cooked a vegetable chilli which they devoured with nachos and dip. Everyone peeled, sliced or chopped fresh vegetables which were added to the recipe and cooked in a large pot on the open fire. Several classes, as part of their enquiry, made Damper Bread, which they toasted on whittled hazel sticks over the fire and sweetened it with honey or jam. The children made their own bread dough before toasting; it was tricky getting the bread  to just the right consistency. Other year groups toasted popcorn in our specially designed popcorn toasting sieves.

Some of our children had enquiries that required them to be engineers. During their Forest School sessions, they designed and engineered shelters for woodland creatures. I also witnessed building skills creating an obstacle course, which they changed and adapted to make the game more of a challenge.

Our youngest children went on an Easter egg hunt, having to find eggs of different colours and patterns. They were also set the task to find my well-hidden Easter bunny. As Spring has been their focus, each child decorated a compostable plant pot and sowed flower seeds.  Spring is the time for new life and fresh beginnings. The children are now tasked with caring for their seeds, which should start to grow over the Easter holidays. Look out for either marigolds or cosmos, which can be planted out once the frost has passed. Around the fire, the children enjoyed hot chocolate and an Easter treat from the Easter bunny.

Attendance

Corsham Primary School supports the principles, practice and procedures outlined in the recently updated DfE School Attendance document. We believe pupils can only take full advantage of their education by regular and punctual attendance at school to ensure continuity of learning.

March attendance across both sites was 95%

Unauthorised absences across both sites was 1.16%

Number of late arrivals across both sites was  12.19%

If you need to report your child's absence, please telephone and leave a message on the office answerphone giving the reason for absence.  This is important for our daily registers which must reflect accurately, why a child is not in school.  Also, if your child will not be attending school due to a planned event, please request a Leave of Absence form from the school office or find one at the bottom of our home page on the website.
